The Art of Bath Rituals

Bathing is an ancient ritual, only the wealthiest families had private baths. They would use oils, herbs, and fruits to create a luxurious atmosphere. Relaxing is more than just jumping into a tub filled with bubbles. To achieve maximum results, one must place an emphasis on soothing their 5 senses. Let us start with our sense of smell.

Adding ½ cup of fresh herbs like Chamomile or Lavender to your hot bath creates a vapor of aromatherapy. Both herbs have calming effects which improve sleep by reducing negative emotions. Natural Grocers sells organic versions of them priced at $5 per LB. For those who prefer less of a mess, 3-5 drops of your favorite essential oils are a great alternative. Or you can purchase an all-natural bath bomb from Handcrafted by Rozeli.

To lighten your mood and fill your bathroom with good vibes add a musical ambiance. If you listen to upbeat music during the day, try opting for a music genre with no words like jazz or ocean waves. Being able to hear your thoughts allows you to take control of your emotions. If Jazz and ambiance are not your things, Rob Hill Sr. has an album of spoken word poetry titled “The Audacity of a Good Heart”, that feeds the soul.

Lighting! Lighting! Lighting! If your bathroom has a light dimmer, consider yourself lucky. Otherwise, you can opt for candles and tealights.

Drinks! As much as you may want to crack open that bottle of Sangria while in the tub, alcohol and heat do not mix. Alcohol causes our body temperature to rise and can make the bath seem hotter than it is, causing headaches and dehydration. Try opting for a cold non-alcoholic beverage to keep your body temperatures stable, or just eat some fruit.
